new-england-aesthetic:

“…a place is not a place until people have been born in it, have grown up in it, lived in it, known it, died in it – have both experienced and shaped it, as individuals, families, neighborhoods, and communities, over more than one generation. Some are born in their place, some find it, some…

“The things one loves about old houses – their sense of history, their time-worn easy comfort, the way they sit on the land with an air of inevitability, their elegant proportions and details…they celebrate craftsmanship and quality, comfort and decoration, natural light and the importance of connecting the rooms inside with the landscapes which surround them…” —G. It's Shrove Tuesday,

so Lent begins tomorrow.  Every year for the past several, I have given up all blogging activity, including reading and commenting, for Lent.  This year, that also means no posting here on tumblr.  After tonight, Scurvy Oaks will go quiet until Easter.  See y’all then.

Collect for Ash Wednesday:

ALMIGHTY and everlasting God, who hatest nothing that thou hast made, and dost forgive the sins of all those who are penitent; Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of thee, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
